Learning Beyond School Walls

Experiential learning is a core part of life at EMIS. Our students step outside the classroom to connect with the environment, engage in activism, explore the arts, and challenge themselves through scientific discovery and competitions. These shared experiences strengthen friendships and inspire change.

Green Team trips

The EMIS Green Team regularly takes part in field trips that focus on sustainability, ecology, and environmental innovation. During these trips, students explore natural habitats, learn about native plant species, and discover different sustainable technologies and environmental practices in real-life settings. They meet experts, visit ecological projects, and see firsthand how communities and organizations are working to protect the planet. These experiences deepen students’ environmental awareness and empower them to become informed, active leaders in sustainability both on campus and beyond.

Fall field trip

Each year, all EMIS students in Grades 10 and 11 take part in the Fall Field Trip designed to deepen their understanding of the region and its people. These journeys combine hiking, cultural encounters, experiential workshops, and meaningful volunteering activities. Students walk through different landscapes, meet diverse communities, listen to local speakers, and reflect on the social and cultural layers that shape life in Israel.

Recently, students explored areas along the coastal plain and the Carmel region. The engaged with the local communities, and hiked nature trails that connect learning with the outdoors. These trips strengthen independence, curiosity, teamwork, and global awareness, while helping students build real-world connections to the themes they study on campus.

Science trips

At EMIS, science learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students in our science courses participate in field trips and professional visits that connect theory to real-world scientific innovation. Biology students visit the Teva pharmaceutical company, where they tour production facilities and hear from experts about cutting-edge medications and the global pharmaceutical industry. Chemistry students visit the Weizmann Institute of Science — one of the world’s leading research centers — gaining exposure to advanced laboratories and groundbreaking research in chemistry and physics. Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) students explore urban nature at Yarkon Park, learning about ecosystems, conservation, and the importance of green spaces in modern city life. These experiences inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and highlight the real impact of science in today’s world.

Art Trips

Students in the Visual Arts course take part in several art trips throughout the year, where learning moves beyond the classroom and into the vibrant world of contemporary art. During these trips, students visit galleries, museums, and exhibitions, and meet with artists, curators, and other professionals from the art world. These encounters provide them with unique insight into current artistic practices in Israel and around the globe. In addition, students participate in hands-on workshops that introduce them to a variety of artistic techniques and creative processes. These experiences enrich their knowledge, develop their artistic skills, and inspire both personal expression and critical thinking.

Activism

At EMIS, students are not only learning about sustainability,  they are actively working to protect the environment and inspire change. Our students take part in a wide range of hands-on environmental initiatives such as beach clean-ups, national and international climate marches, environmental conferences, guest lectures, and community volunteering. Through these experiences, they gain a deeper understanding of global climate challenges and the responsibility each of us holds in shaping a more sustainable future. Students also participate in foraging activities and nature-based learning, helping them reconnect with their natural surroundings while developing eco-awareness and respect for the land. These initiatives encourage leadership, activism, and meaningful engagement with real-world environmental issues , empowering EMIS students to become changemakers in their communities and beyond.
