How do we celebrate all the winter holidays and think sustainably all at once?
To recognize the end of exams and the upcoming winter break, the students organized an eco-friendly holiday craft fair and a ceremony full of performances and community connection.
Green games included up-cycled versions of poker and checkers made from bottle caps collected in a beach clean up, and vegan holiday treats such as hot cocoa cooked on renewable energy (with biogas!). The students also set up an eco-thrift pop-up shop with a sustainable fashion runway, a station to decorate your own (vegan) cookies, a workshop to make up-cycled holiday cards from discarded magazines, sustainability trivia, and a make-your-own flower crown option!
This special event was a collaboration between the Green Team and the Student Council – every school event is an opportunity to apply sustainable thinking to our daily lives. Want to make your own school event sustainable?
- Serve vegan food!
- Game and activities can be made from up-cycled materials – reuse your trash!
- No need to buy decorations- make your own, and reuse each year!
