One word that sums up our Mission Week?

Community!

This special week is full of adventure, exploration and ultimately is the perfect opportunity for the EMIS community to spend quality time together. Students design this 3-day field trip, plus preparation days, in student teams, working together for months to produce itineraries that will be unique and values-driven. This is not just any field trip – the students are tasked with finding people and communities to visit that will help us explore our school mission and values.

  • We met people from different sectors of Israeli society, such as the Circassians, and activists who affect local change, such as the only female fisherman in a local village who promotes marine protection through education and surfing,
  • We explore beautiful landscapes, such as nature reserves, the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea.
  • We gained knowledge and understanding about regional politics and conflict, and viewpoints about peace and imagined the future of the Middle East,
  • We reimagined the city of Haifa by understanding the connection between social identities and urban landscaping,
  • We volunteered to pack food boxes for communities in need,
  • We learned hands-on skills in small-scale agriculture,
  • We heard controversial and differing perspectives, and asked important questions,
  • We saw views of Jerusalem and understood it throughout the years and cross-sectors,
  • We bonded, through silly moments on the bus, and reflection circles in the evening.

The week was a mosaic of many moments that challenged our views and changed the way we see the world. Every activity was curated and implemented by the amazing student leaders from PreDP, DP1 and DP2.  There is nothing like Mission Week – one of the most special experiences for the EMIS community. We are happy to be back at EMIS together again, changed for the better.
